Forever

I stand and watch

As the glistening liquid rubies

Roll down you marble cheek.

Fitting they should fall now

As they did the night it began.

I stand before you

Your own creation.

Many lifetimes lived for

Me to become what you wished.

All that drew you to me

Erased, eroded, changed.

You cried the night you made me

Those tears I lapped greedily

Salt and metal on my tongue.

Your lips against my neck

Forever? I said yes.

We have seen so much

Watched cities rise and fall.

Now I stand and watch

And feel nothing.

I cried as Rome burned

You laughed said toughen up.

I raged against the cruelty

We witnessed in the world.

You said forget it

We are apart from all.

Those tender lips

That promised so much

Quiver now parting just enough

To show those demon fangs

That brought me to this life.

Eternity together seemed

Such a romantic plan.

Had you let me be

Who knows what might have been.

You look at me now

And whisper ‘Forever?’

I merely shake my head

You took away my heart

And made me now a killer.

Not that night you took my life

But as you changed my spirit.

You fell for my humanity

Then slowly you destroyed it.

I only did as you instructed

Got harder and forgot.

You made me strong

Never seeing what must come.

I stand and watch

As you go to greet the morning sun

And I feel nothing.

Let me know your thoughts.......
