June Vlog

It’s that time of the month again where I ramble on before showing you some pretty pictures, I actually managed to ramble for ten minutes this time, I am not sure if this means I am relaxing more or just trying to bore you all lol.

Enjoy and remember competition results and next months competition are immediately after my waffling 😀

Playing Catch Up Once Again

So after the laziness of the last month I am throwing myself back into my normal routine of balancing work, writing, family and fun, though not necessarily in that order, hell you never know might even fit housework in lol.

I have posted the May round up page finally you can check that out here… May 2014

This morning I have dancing, followed by work then when I get home tonight I will be filming this months Vlog, in which I shall reveal the winner of the June Caption Competition I run on my Facebook page.  If you haven’t already like my Facebook page please come over and say hello there, that is the place where I do the caption competition every month where you have a chance of winning an Amazon Voucher, I share loads of random stuff I see or like there and is linked to my Twitter so you see the strange, weird and wonderful messages I send out into the Twitterverse as well.  I am also considering doing something more creative with my Youtube Channel at the minute I really only use it for the Vlogs once a month (as you know you can’t upload them straight to WordPress).  I did upload some videos there yesterday from the Stratford visit of our boat trip on the River Avon, this is one of the three…..

I really wish I was heading back there soon, if you get the chance to visit and the weather is half as nice as it was for us get on a boat, we did joke about getting a rowboat but that seemed too much like hard work.

I also had my eyebrows sugared yesterday, you might have seen the before and after pics on FB but I also took some photos and hour then two hours after so you can see how quickly I recovered which I will add into the Vlog.

(Okay I am writing this Tuesday evening for publishing Wednesday so I need to check I have everything I need and get ready for tomorrow)

Five Star Reviews

We are getting closer to the print version of Lupus Animus being released and I confess I am getting rather excitable about it!

For those who did not see the previous post about it here is the cover you should look out for…

And if you need any extra persuasion to shell out a couple of quid for a very worthy cause then maybe these 5 star reviews will tempt you!

This book was a brilliant idea that has allowed a charity to prosper.
The stories in this book were a delight to read as were the poems, each different and unique in their own way I absolutely loved reading this.

Lupus Animus: Charity Anthology is a compilation book with an abundance of treasured thoughts and stories geared towards the beloved wolf. Delightful poems full of life and promise, as well as rich stories filling the mood with mystery and resilience while pulling its reader in. A lot of heart went into writing these beautiful stories.

I love that this anthology is donating its profits to Artisan Rarebreeds an organization that is channelled directly into the care, accommodation, maintenance and improvement of their animal residents.

What can I say? This project is incredible! The stories and poems are filled with heart, and every word is a joy to read. This anthology is donating to a great cause, and there are entries in here to please everyone. You should definitely pick this up, I am sure you will find something you can enjoy!

If you are waiting for a print version then the wait is almost up, they are working through the proof copy as I type this, for now the links for the kindle version are here and please feel free to add it to you ‘to read’ list on Goodreads.

It is all getting rather exciting!!!

Glossybox Monthly Review – May 2014

So last month was a really mixed box which saw me not liking more than I was excited by so my initial reaction to this box was more positive at first glance I liked the look of everything but did it last? As you may have noticed this month was a Superdrug special so all products are available there.

First up…

Complete Long-Lasting Nail polish in Quartz by B.

At first glance I thought this was black but it is actually a really dark Charcoal colour.  I am going to be really brief because I loved it! I can only tell you that since I got this I have worn it constantly on my toes…

Ignore the dodgy application round the edges I was excited

Ignore the dodgy application round the edges I was excited

It goes on really nicely, lasts well and at £4.99 for the full 8ml size I received I will definitely be looking to see which other colours are in the range.

Next up…

Maybelline New York Great Lash Mascara in Very Black

Normally I love Maybelline but I did find this mascara very runny, it states you should do your second coat to build up your lashes before the first dries but I found it smudged quite easily.  However I actually gave it to my daughter who I knew actually used this mascara previously and she said it did seem runnier than it normally was, so it is possibly I just got a dodgy one. At £4.99 for the full size version which I received it is cheap and makes your lashes black…

One eye done so you can see difference

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIt is not great doesn’t really lengthen or plump your lashes but for an every day mascara it does the job.

Next up…

GHOST Fragrances Eclipse

A bonus trial sample and I loved it, in fact I am sad to say I already used it all. I like the original and I love this just as much full size of 50ml is £33 so not ridiculously expensive and one I shall definitely by buying.

On to…

Blowpro After blow strong hold finishing Spray

This was the one product that really disappointed this month, first I know all hairsprays smell but this seems to have a very strong chemical scent which after the first spray put me off using it.  It was very sticky and although it did the job and held my hair I couldn’t see anything about it to justify the price tag. At £11.99 for the full size of 283ml I can honestly say this is not something I will buy again.

Next up another bonus product…

Garnier Oil Beauty Lotion

I really cannot comment on this properly as lets face it lotions really need a few applications to know if they really deliver.  I can say it went on nicely and that my skin did feel lovely and smooth after but whether long term it replenishes the moisture as it claims there was just not enough to test.  However at £4.99 for the full size 250ml it is cheap enough that I may be tempted to pick some up and give it a try.

Next up…

I Love Cosmetics Strawberries & Milkshake Shimmer & Shine

I loved the smell of this and could happily have sat smelling it for hours but that is not what it was intended for…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA As you can see it is actually quite thick and gloopy, and I did find it better to apply it with a lip brush, I am not a fan of gloopiness in my lip gloss but this did not feel too bad when it was on.  Sadly the colour was not a good one for me…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAif I was younger or had darker hair and complexion it might have been better but as you can see it just does not suit me, of course my daughter was only too happy to relieve me of it and she loves it.  I got the full size of 15ml and they are really cheap at only £1.29 so it may be worth checking out the other colours/shades/flavours or however you describe it lol.

Finally we have…

Scholl Velvet Smooth Overnight Mask

First relax, there will be no pictures of my feet (other than the toe picture you already had inflicted upon you). I tend to alternate between being barefoot round the house or wearing walking boots, there are two reasons for this I love being barefoot but hate feet and also I have freaky feet! The skin on the top of my feet is ridiculously thin and it seems 99% of shoes rub layers off, the skin on my soles is like old leather and can withstand walking on almost anything.  So you can imagine my face reading this when it claimed that over night it could soften the skin on my heels, then you can also imagine the complete shock and amazement on my face the next morning when it had worked.  Okay my feet were not suddenly as soft as a babies bottom, but they were noticeable softer and If I were better organised and used it the once or twice a week as recommended rather than when I remember I can believe I could have lovely soft feet again in weeks. At £7.99 for the 60ml tube it is well worth it especially over summer when you want to wear sandals or need to show off your feet by the pool.

Overall I am very pleased with most of the stuff I got this month and as next months box is already here am going to play some more. 😀

The Bard

Just a really quick post today as we are out for the afternoon and the evening but just wanted to let you know we had a lovely day out in Stratford Yesterday.  Sadly we did not have time to visit every where I wanted to so another visit will have to be arranged, isn’t that terrible lol but I thought I would share a couple of really quick pics and if you visit the Facebook page have posted a short video from our boat trip on the river.

It’s Here! #LupusAnimus Yay!!!!!!!

In case you could not tell I am a little excited!

Just after Christmas I submitted a story to a Charity anthology raising money for Artisan Rarebreed, a charity which rescues animals here in the UK as well as breeding some rare breeds.

Today sees the launch of the E-Book version, with a paper version to follow in the next month so lets do the ‘official launch’ bit…

Can’t afford a donation to help out a charity? How about a book?

‘She was just eating her meal when she smelled a male wolf nearby – not one of her own. She watched him warily as he came slowly toward the three pups that were out the enclosure again.’ Lost Mate, Terry Spear – US Today Bestseller

Featuring poems, stories and haiku with the theme of wolves and the truth as each author perceives it.

Discover wolves in a sci-fi setting, followed by in character views of wolves in their natural settings and in conflict with humans.

All proceeds go to Artisan Rarebreeds.
Registered Charity Number
HMRC XT37297

With stories, poems and haiku from Ylva and Rose DelaWulf, Sherrill Willis, Zakira Salem, Krystal O’Brien, L. Anne Wooley, Shelley Walsh, Eleanor Musgrove, Delbert McGill, Michael E. Herman, Melina Turner, Caio Henrique Tavares, Yanick Zolnerciks, Paula Acton, Philip Tolhurst, John C. Scott, Jessica Kuilan Gonzalez, Dee Martin, Danielle Newman, James Don and Lisa Miller.

Right enough of being official please excuse me while I dance round the room. (No I am not wearing my shimmy belt and I am not videoing it before anyone asks.)  I think one of the reasons it is so exciting to be published in something like this is obviously firstly knowing you are helping a worthy cause but the second and more personal reason is vindication as a writer.  Doubt is a companion for most writers, but I think even more so for those who have or intend to self-publish, if you go down the traditional publishing route then at least one other person is saying they believe in your work, even if it is a small company or they just see pound signs in your writing but for the self-published it is a case of putting yourself out there and hoping.  By submitting and being accepted for this type of project or journals you get the support of others out there who are saying ‘yes you are good enough’ and by donating a story you both provide something the other holds of value and benefit each other.  So for me seeing this…10439225_10154207205205576_739493400_o

means just as much as the extra funds will to the good folks over at Artisan.  If you want to see more of the good work they do check out their Facebook page here.

I shall be reading my copy on my kindle heading to Stratford tomorrow, I shall grab a few postcards to send to friends around the world as well as posting a few pictures to my Twitter and Instagram feeds but the main thing is fingers crossed I am to film for this months Vlog from the birthplace of Shakespeare, if you would like to grab a copy of Lupus Animus here are the links and don’t forget the funds go to a good cause so if you love it tell your friends about it as well.  Right off to get dinner ready as daughter is staying here tonight prior to her birthday outing tomorrow.

And He Learned

I don’t reblog very often but this is such an important message so eloquently put that it needs to be shared far and wide.

Rethink the Rant

When he noticed the naked little girl at the beach didn’t look quite like he did and asked why, they answered his questions in simple phrases painted in black and white, pink and blue, and tradition. And he learned that boys and girls were different.

When one of the neighbor kids painted his nails, they got angry. That wasn’t something boys did. And he learned that there were different rules for boys and girls, and that breaking those made people upset.

When he was handed down a pink bike from his cousin, they replaced it with a blue one, because they didn’t want him to be mocked for having a “girly” bike. And he learned that being girly was something to be mocked.

When he cried, they told him to be a man. And he learned that crying, and being not a man, was something less.

When he was being picked…
