GlossyBox Monthly Review – October

So this months box arrived and of course I got all excited and rushed to open the lovely pink parcel before me…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

As always it is very exciting taking a closer look at what you have received and as you will see from the products overall I am really pleased with this months haul.  So Lets start with the smellies…

Killer Queen Fragrance by Katy Perry

I love the smell of this, often I find many of the celeb perfumes are quite overpowering but this is really nice and if you think Oriental meets Floral that pretty much sums it up.  I received a 1.5ml spray sample which probably won’t last long (might wear it out on Saturday night) full size is 50 ml and costs £29.50.  Would I buy it, actually yes I would and might actually buy some after Christmas is out of the way, next up…

Illuminating Primer by Monu

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI have to confess I don’t normally use a primer, though possibly I should and may experiment with it now I have this sample.  It comes out in quite a big blob and I did feel a little more than I needed can out, but I just went with it for today and applied it to the skin.  It actually left my skin feeling really good and did give it a bit of a healthy glow which I put down to the opalescent effect of it as you apply.  I didn’t want to take lots of pictures today because my batteries were running low in the camera but I did find my foundation went on a little more evenly than normal especially around my nose which tends to be a little dry and flaky at this time of year.  The sample I received is 12ml and to buy a full size version is £24.95 for 50ml, I am not sure at this minute if I would buy it, the price does seem quite steep but I will use the sample and see how long it lasts possibly the length of time a full one might last could justify the price I think it is wait and see on this one although the actual product is good.  Next up…

Multi-Vit Smoothie Serum

Rich and creamy a little goes a long way.  My skin felt great after applying this and it did soak in very quickly, however like the primer this is a product which will require further use before I can decide if I would buy it again.  I have combination skin some areas are dry others get a little greasy so it will take repeated use to discover whether I can use this product all over consistently or whether I would have to just put it on in certain places.  The sample I received is 20ml, a full size 50ml version costs £22.50 and although only a little is required they advise using morning and evening so I think it will need extra time testing this before I decide if it is worth the cost, I do however think I will definitely look into vitamin serums if I decide this one is too expensive for my needs.  Now we move onto…

Cleansing Bar by Gamila Secret.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHand made in Galilee it smells lovely, made from lots of natural ingredients, I am fascinated by the 28 day healing claim.  After wetting it takes a little effort to build up the thick suds and it does feel good on the skin.  It is not something however you can really use in the bath or the shower easily as they state you should allow it time to soak in and work before rinsing off, I have had home made soaps before and this reminds me very much of those, though I must say it is very rarely I buy soap in this time of block form anymore.  The bar I received was 30g it does not say what weight a full size bar is but at £21 for the full size version I really cannot see me buying this.  It will be interesting to see what effects if any it has over the next few weeks but I cannot imagine anything can justify that price for me.  Now the final Item…

Cherub’s Blush – Cheek & lip Tint by MeMeMe

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Sadly I really did not like this or possibly I should say this didn’t like me!  First I followed instructions and tried it as a blush but the colour is just not right for my pale skin I looked a little like I had been slapped then I tried it on my lips, well when you get to a certain age no matter how hard you try unless you have botox fine lines will appear and this showed all of them round my mouth.  Because of the fact it is a liquid no sooner than you apply it with the brush the colour bleeds, I did try applying it with a cotton bud but to be honest I could achieve the same result without the bleeding and longer lasting by eating beetroot.  They sent the full size 12ml product worth £5.50 and maybe if I were younger or darker skinned I would think more of this product but sadly this is one I wont be buying.  I will be passing it on to my daughter and if she doesn’t like it well I might try painting a picture with it lol

So that’s this months box I am quite pleased with the facial products but the make up item was a huge miss, and I still can’t quite get my head round the idea of paying £21 for a bar of soap, if I have anything to add on any of the products I will update you on next months review.

  1. Paula, I’ve never heard of this before. I had to run and Google GlossyBox right away. I think I might give this a try. I don’t have time to run out and try new things, so I like the idea of “new things” coming to me.

  2. Nice content! 🙂 I’d love to subscribe to one of those box-type things, it seems like Christmas every month. Such lovely things to indulge in that you got. I’m mostly intrigued by that serum.. the smoothie formula sounds great. I hope it’ll feel lovely on your skin for fall! I have dry patches at the moment as well and they don’t exactly make the skin look radiant. 😛
