Stories and Lists July Blog Challenge 2013 – Day 5: Create a superhero and describe them in 500 words or less

Day 5: Create a superhero and describe them in 500 words or less

A new one for me never really thought about a superhero so here goes but knowing what coming ahead want to fit it with my previous character.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Matthew shifted the camera on his shoulder, its weight insignificant to him but he was aware of the need to keep up appearances.

He had been two when his life had changed, when the lightning had strayed through the open window and struck the cot.  A frantic trip to the emergency room had shown he was unharmed but it had not taken long for his parents to notice the changes, he was far stronger than normal as he grew but it was his other gifts which had been harder to adjust to.

He had quickly learned to use his telekinetic abilities, his mum soon realised that putting the cookie jar out of reach was a pointless exercise, his telepathic abilities had come later and been so much more difficult to come to terms with.  At first his parents had sought advice but they soon learned to hide their sons special qualities, they became experts at providing rational explanations when objects moved in front of others.  As he grew he learned to control them, avoiding situations where he may be tempted to use his gifts. Relationships proved even harder for him as he passed through the teenage years, trust can be hard when you know exactly what the other person is thinking, but his physical attributes ensured that he was constantly attracting the attentions of the opposite sex.  At 6′ 2″ with broad shoulders and and muscular build hiding was easier said than done.

It was after a conversation late one night with his father that his career path was chosen, he could be close enough to the scenes of disasters to make a difference without his presence being questioned, with the camera hoisted high on his shoulder and a baseball cap pulled down shielding his eyes no one paid any attention he was just another person doing their job.  Relationships still alluded him his two serious attempts foiled by the insight to his partners doubts and fears, now he took advantage of the casual encounters his looks allowed always looking straight at the chosen lady his big brown eyes staring straight into her soul while he told her he was not looking for more able to walk away from those whose minds told him they wanted more.

He now used his gifts to save others when ever possible while avoiding drawing attention to himself, he knew something was still missing from his life but at 28 figured he had time to work out how to have the intimacy without information overload, if only he could find someone whose mind was closed to him he was convinced he could happily settle down.

actually was quite doing a superhero, its not my usual genre but also it was how to make it believable I did consider whether running round in pants was a requisite for all super heros
