As I only have time to post one blog today I am killing two birds with one stone. I am still smiling after yesterday’s blog where Monique did her interview. I can honestly say that writing and blogging has allowed me to connect with the most amazing people and knowing that others out there are in the same boat as me when it comes to a WIP has been so reassuring. So thankyou all for visiting and allowing me to visit you and learn for your experiences.
The first thing I want to have a quick chat about is my WIP you will have noticed my word count gradually creeping up as I am pushing myself to a certain extent to meet the August deadline. I killed my bad guy the night before last I am of course not completely happy with his demise but it is the first draft and rather than pull my hair out now I made the decision to tweek it in the editing. I still have a couple of chapters to go which may seem strange given that my bad guy is dead but there are certain aspects that require the extra chapters. Shall we just say that the bad guy dying doesn’t always resolve everything sometimes there is ‘fallout’ to clear after the dust settles. Now what I want to ask you guys is should I actually get some novel writing software before I start the editing? I started this novel as a word document at one point I did look into novel writing software. I did even download yWriter only to discover I could not import my word doc to it I couldn’t even cut and past it in. Should I continue in word and worrt about it before starting my next one? Or is there one out there that will allow my to import my work into it? I have no intention of retyping the 70,000 I expect to have by the end of my first draft. So what are your thoughts…do you use specific novel software? Which would you recommend (preferably free)?
Yesterday I took a half day away from the computer to spend Bank Holiday with the monster and my other half at the park the weather was not brilliant but we had a lovely afternoon feeding the ducks and the oohhh soo cute ducklings. Plus the monster got to ride the little mini steam train. As always I took loads of photos so enjoy the slideshow. I just want to point out I know the ducks in flight are blurry but you know something it idn’t matter I love the way it conveys the sense of movement.

Paula, I use Scrivener. It’s not free, but it has 30 day trial. Not 30 consecutaive days but 30 times you log in, so you could log in once a week and use it for 30 weeks. It works for me and you can find a lot of info on it online.
Congrats on moving along so well.

Love the slideshow! My son would freak over that train. My favorite is the B&W of the memorial, where only the flower petals are in color.
As for writing programs – I use the typical word doc. Then, for ebook formatting, I copy and paste it into Sigil before converting it with Calibre (all free, btw). Only downfall is I can’t seem to create a working ToC inside the book. A book as long as yours, you’ll probably want one of those.
Good luck and thnx for showing us your pics!

I’m curious as to what others will say. I don’t have any software, but I would like to explore this option. Love the photos.

yeah from what i can tell it seems to allow you to organise you story into chapters and scenes more but other than that i am not sure what else they offer

am not really sure I know some have cool timeline things. Think I will probably stay using word doc for this novel then once its finished try out some of the free ones before starting my next

I think it’s so important to get out and about, and away from the laptop
